Fired in Nashville
/OK, FTVLive is going to admit something here. We HATE when Weather Anchors or Sports Anchors try to do theme forecasts or reports, instead of just telling us the news.
You know what I'm talking about, a Weather Anchor will drop[ like 25 Star Trek references in a forecast and it supposed to be really funny and cute.
This is something that just started happening over the past few years or so. Other websites link to this crap and then it spreads to spread like herpes.
It's unprofessional and self serving and that's why FTVLive steers clear of these stories.
Well, one Nashville Sports Anchor thought he we do a Prince themed sportscast and it ended up getting him fired.
WZTV reporter Dan Phillips delivered his sportscast on April 21, the day of Prince’s death.
During a four minute sports roundup, Phillips managed to name-drop each song on “Purple Rain” and just about every other major Prince single.
“This is what it sounds like when doves cry and when Mike Fisher scores!” Phillips said in one reference.
Phillips took to Facebook to say that his Prince sports report got him the ax.
“Unfortunately, there were apparently some viewers, as well as management at the station, who did not feel the same way. They felt I was insensitive. And as a result, I was terminated today.”
Not sure the guy deserved to be fired, but let's hope that it puts an end to this themed self serving crap and we get back to just reporting the news, sports or weather.
Of course the chance of that happening it like seeing purple rain.
Doh!
