Longtime Spokane Anchor in Cancer Battle

Randy Shaw spent 3 decades anchoring the news in Spokane. He is now locked in a battle against cancer.

Shaw revealed he's battling cancer, but wanted to let his Spokane viewers know he's "doing fine."

Randy retired from KREM in September after 30 years, making him the longest-running news anchor in the history of the Spokane television market.

He moved to Chandler, Arizona to help his wife, Suki, run her Korean barbecue restaurant.

A local newspaper ran a story this week saying the couple had decided to close the restaurant to concentrate on Randy's health.

On Friday, KREM spoke to Shaw about his health.

"I'm doing fine," said Shaw. "No worries.  I'm at the tail end of my treatments.  I'm doing alright."
