NABJ On Thin Ice

The industry's oldest minority group is telling members it expects to end the year in the red. That announcement comes after finishing last year almost a quarter of a million dollars in the red.

NABJ's budget is around $2.5M, and is short $380,000. The organization has eliminated 3 staff positions, including executive director. They're now considering closing their office in College Park, Maryland and operating virtually.

The Huffington Post has repeatedly asked NABJ for a copy of their financial disclosure documents, required by law, but so far the group refuses to comply. NABJ Board President Sarah Glover, who is the social media editor for the NBC O&O stations, will only say last years convention didn't produce the kind of revenue they anticipated.

According to the HuffPo story, it looks like there could have been some heavy spending.
