Chicago Station to Tack on More News

Once again, in an effort to bring in more political ad dollars, another station is adding more newscasts to the schedule.

WFLD, the Fox O&O in Chicago says that they are adding four hours of morning news on the weekends early next year, complementing its existing newscasts on Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Dennis Welsh, who leads the station as general manager, said Fox was making “a bigger commitment to news” with the additional programming, and also stepping up to increased competition on that front in Chicago, the country's third-largest TV market.

The new morning show will run from 7 to 9 a.m. and launch in late January or early February. The station currently has an evening newscast on Saturday and Sunday.

He declined to say who would anchor the new newscast.
