Holt Stays on Top, But the Gap Closes

A win is a win, but it was a close one this time for NBC's Lester Holt.

Holt had the most viewers last week, his 17th straight win since being named anchor of "NBC Nightly News."

But it was close, with just 32,000 viewers separating NBC and "ABC World News Tonight With David Muir." Holt averaged 7.840 million viewers to Muir's 7.808 million.

ABC noted it was 319,000 viewers behind last week and making progress. ABC also said it was in its closest position to NBC in seven years.

"The CBS Evening News With Scott Pelley" averaged 6.646 million. But CBS noted that it was the only evening newscast up from the same week a year ago and had added 210,000 viewers.

But NBC did win across the board last week. In the 25-to-54 age group, which is most important to news advertisers, NBC averaged 1.852 million viewers to ABC's 1.731 million and CBS' 1.425 million.

NBC also won the 18-to-49 age group.
