Could ABC Jump to a New Affiliate in Birmingham?

Last week, FTVLive told you that Sinclair is looking at surrendering the licenses for the Albiritton stations in Birmingham, Ala., because they failed to find a buyer for them.

It's part of Sinclair's attempt to win FCC approval for the sale of the rest of the Albitton stations, including WJLA in Washington, DC.

But a source in Birmingham says WVUA which is an unaffiliated station, owned by the University of Alabama, with a full range broadcast signal is watching the Sinclair-Albritton acquisition very closely.

Word is that WVUA will apply to take over as the ABC affiliate in Birmingham once Sinclair surrenders the licenses WBMA/WCFT.

WVUA just completed their new broadcast facility within Bryant Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa and are FULL HD. And considering that their signal is more powerful than WAMB’s they are hoping at ABC might be interested in moving their affiliation over to them.

Stay tuned....
