Meet The Press Falls

FTVLive predicted long ago when NBC promoted David Gregory to Meet the Press that the once powerful franchise would fall in the ratings.

When the late Tim Russert hosted MTP it was appointment television. With Gregory doing the show, it's an appointment you want to skip.

Politico writes that the show has been on the decline since Gregory took over in 2008. But the most recent numbers are especially troubling.

In the fourth quarter of 2013, "Meet" came in third place for total viewers behind CBS's "Face The Nation" and ABC's "This Week" for the first time since the third quarter of 1992.

But it gets worse: The 2013 fourth-quarter figures mark the lowest total viewers "Meet" has had in a fourth quarter since 1991. And among viewers ages 25 to 54, last quarter marked the lowest ratings in the show's entire history.

NBC insists there are no plans to take Gregory off the show, but as FTVLive has told you, NBC News boss Deborah Turness is taking a hard look at the show.
