After 30 years at WTVA, longtime Anchor Terry Smith is leaving the anchor desk.

Terry Smith began his career in Chattanooga, Tennessee, before moving to Tupelo and WTVA.

Smith celebrated his 30th anniversary with the station in June.

He currently anchors the evening newscasts as well as hosts WTVA's community show "Focus" and co-hosts the Regional Rehabilitation Center's Celebration of Hope Telethon.

"I've had the pleasure of working for one of the best, well run stations and content providers in the country," Smith said. "WTVA has supported me and my family in all aspects of my life and career, and I feel so blessed to be a part of such a special group of people," Smith said. "WTVA truly has the most talented people in this business from engineering to production to promotions to office staff and news."

Smith plans on working as a voice over production as well as helping others learn the art of public speaking.

He will also remain a member of the WTVA family by continuing to host "Focus" and the Celebration of Hope.

"Terry Smith is a person worthy of our respect, admiration and deep gratitude. We have been extraordinarily fortunate to have him as a leading force and generous mentor for over 30 years. We wish him great success with his new endeavor and couldn't be happier for him and his family." Jane Spain, WTVA president.

Smith's last day is Friday, August 30.
