Salt Lake GM's Long Answer

It must be nice to be Richard Doutre Jones the GM of KTVX in Salt Lake City. This guy seems to have a lot of time on his hands.

A viewer named "Char" asked a simple question using a form on the station's website.

Char asked "Wat (sic) happened to kylee conway..she is the only reason we watched your show...duh!!!"

She got a reply email from KTVX GM  Doutre Jones that was almost 800 words long!

Jones not only told her that Conway is no longer with the station, but he updates her on where Conway is in the world and about her replacement.

He then continues his long response by talking about a new hire that will be joining the station, a newspaper guy that they have added, how great the weatherman is, a 5 year old phenomenon that will help with weather and another 4 or 5 other changes the station made.

All because a viewer wanted to know where her favorite anchor went?

Talk about overkill.

Here is the GM's long email he sent to the viewer:

Dear Char,

Thank you for writing, but you must not have been watching our station for a very long time since Kylie Conway stopped anchoring our early and late news the first week of April, which was over two months ago.  The last time she appeared on our air was April 24th-26th, when she did a three-part story on the Great White Shark Hunter from Utah.

Kylie actually made the choice to leave our news-team to pursue other opportunities, but since the end of April has been traveling Europe, and from what I have been told she is still in Europe and will be there for most of the summer.  I am not sure what she has planned after that period of time.

Kim Fisher, or former 5pm anchor and reporter, is now our lead female night-side anchor, and she is not just a good anchor, but a terrific reporter as well.  We have a new male anchor coming to join her in July because we are going to do much more with Brent Hunsaker, one of the senior newspersons in Utah.  At the end of June,  Brent will become our “Good 4 Utah Journalist” and will be charged with bringing us meaningful stories each day about all types of issues which affect Utahns…consumer, political, investigative…heart-warming…some might take 3-4 days to tell and we will extend them on our website as well.

In addition, in the third week of June, we will be adding an amazing talent, Nadia Crow, who will be our4pm Co-Anchor.   We believe we already have the best meteorologist in Utah, in Jim Kosek.   Jim is not just the most accurate of all meteorologists (his second year in a row winning that honor through certified monitoring of all Utah forecasts) in Utah, he is also the best in personality in Utah.  We believe that anyone who watches Jim for more than a couple of newscasts will discover he grows on you more and more!  Jim is not a boring robotron, and he loves going live from various locations and talking to viewers.  On Wednesday, he does one of the most unique and entertaining features of any Utah broadcaster; in the 6pm News he has a weekly feature call XCLEAR Pin Point Weather Kid, where every Wednesday, Jim does the weather with an amateur weather-caster…boys and girls ranging from age 5 to age 12.  This Wednesday we have a five year old phenomenon  who we think will blow everyone away.

In the morning, on Good Morning Utah from 430-7AM, we promoted our terrific meteorologist, Glenn Willey, to our main morning anchor.  Additionally, one of our hard working and very Utah connected reporters, (she is from Farmington Utah) Emily Clark as our co-anchor.  Finally, we moved our wonderful Curtis Ray from weekends to be our M-F meteorologist and believe he has blended in perfectly with Glenn and Emily.  In fact, we have thrilled not only at their camaraderie but also with their on-air chemistry since it is like watching a “kid sister”, who is also completely wired into what is happening in Utah, talk about the news and events with her two big brothers.   We have been getting quite a bit of positive feedback on this anchor team so I would love to hear what you think as well.

We believe each of these changes will benefit our viewers, and then you will not see changes in our anchor teams for many, many years to come…at least that the intention.  Our focus for ABC4Utah News is to tell the stories which are compelling and Good4Utah.  We want to be Utah’s TV station, for everyone in this state and that is our commitment of all our anchors/reporters and everyone else in our ABC4Utah newsroom.
