The UK's Daily Mail says it's going to happen and you can bet if it does, Anderson isn't going to be happy about it.

The paper says Cooper's 10pm show is set to be slashed by CNN chief Jeff Zucker to make room for a big new hire, network sources have revealed.

The TV favourite, 45, hosts Anderson Cooper 360° at 8pm every weekday and the show is repeated at 10pm, with Brit Piers Morgan sandwiched in between.

However, as part of a huge raft of changes at the network, Zucker plans to axe the 10pm segment, paving the way for a news star to anchor another show.

Zucker is already moving Erin Burnett to helm a morning show alongside new hire Chris Cuomo, fresh from ABC - which means the evenings are opened up.

Erin, 36, has been hosting CNN's 7 PM OutFront show, which has been struggling in the ratings like most of CNN’s primetime - although she is said to be far from keen to go to breakfast.

The brunette joined CNN in April 2011 from CNBC and her primetime show debuted in October 2011.

A source said: 'Losing an hour of Anderson a night means that Jeff has more to play with, hire heavyweight talent and play chess with the rest of his primetime shows.'
