One of the most recognized faces in Albany (NY) TV news has been fired.

WXXA Fox 23 anchor Ann Hughes has been let go. The station also pink slipped sports anchor Kristian Read and chief photographer Barry Sanders (so that's where he went after his NFL career).

It's all happening as the station continues to merge news operations with its new sister station WTEN 10.

"As we consolidate our resources we had to make staffing decisions," Said GM Andy Alford to the Times Union

More cuts could come after the operations merge at WTEN headquarters next month. "As we prepare for consolidation of the two buildings," Alford said, "we will continue to analyze our staffing needs."

"I appreciate all the effort those employees put forth at that station," Alford said of the six let go. "They are great people."

Just not great enough to keep around, right Andy?
