Why The Station Didn't Cover the Story

Yesterday, FTVLive posted a story about the “hands off” protests and how much of the media was downplaying the nationwide protests, or didn’t cover it at all.

We got and email from a newsie at an Albany, NY station, and they described why their station gave the event so little coverage.

Email:

I saw your posting about the anti -Trump rally and like in Florida, there wasn’t much coverage of the NY rally here in Albany too.  Why?  They’ve cut back on weekend staffing so much that there are hardly anyone shooting news.  We have 1 mmj reporter and 1 editor who doubles as a photographer to go around and pick up vo sots from 8 Am till about 1 pm.  After that, no one cones in till 3pm.  We knew about the rally but couldn’t send a crew so now we have to hope someone who attended the rally will send us video. “ Conflict of Interest “ much?Thats what happening and no one can do a thing to stop it.

The cuts are bad for people working in TV news, for viewers it makes them less informed on issues. The lack of an informed public can lead to an end in democracy.

But, why do I get the feeling that many of these media groups don’t really care about our democracy?

It’s more about dollars.
