Jumping to the Network

Ryan Chandler, the well-known Capitol Correspondent for KXAN Austin, is making a significant career move. Chandler is set to join NBC News as its Texas-based correspondent, leaving behind his role at Nexstar Media Group's 13 Texas markets.

Chandler expressed his deep connection to the Texas Capitol community, stating, "I love the Texas Capitol community and I am not going anywhere. The Texas story is a national story—economically, politically, culturally, demographically. Texas will lead and experience the political currents of this country more than most, and now my job is to tell that story for everyone. I'll be in Austin probably more than some of the lawmakers would like."

Chandler's journey with KXAN began in December 2022, after his tenure at sister stations KAMC and KLBK News Lubbock, where he served as a reporter and anchor. During his time at KXAN, he hosted a weekly political show called "Talking Points."

A proud University of Texas at Austin graduate and Houston native, Chandler started his career as a KXAN political intern. Reflecting on his new role, Chandler said, "I feel incredibly honored to join some of the journalists I most admire at NBC, and I'm humbled at the opportunity to share the stories of Texas with the world. I give the credit to the friends and mentors I found in local news in Austin and Lubbock, some of my best friends who have built me up and put me here."

Chandler's move to NBC News marks a new chapter in his career, where he will continue to bring the stories of Texas to a national audience.
