Nexstar's Station Wants Restraining Order

Nexstar’s KFOR (Oklahoma City) made a request that you don’t often see TV stations make.

KFOR is asking a judge for a restraining order against Oklahoma State Department of Education Superintendent Ryan Walters and OSDE Press Secretary Dan Isett.

The station says that formonths, KFOR journalists have been refused access to public State Board of Education meetings, and placed in an overflow room.

KFOR journalists have been excluded from press conferences held by Walters following those board meetings.

The Superintendent and his Press Sec says that KFOR is not a legitimate news organization.

KFOR is requesting access to this week’s board of education meeting.

In addition, the station is asking for damages amounting to $17.91. That amount is a significant dollar amount, as 1791 was the year the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified, protecting Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press.

We support KFOR in this quest, although we believe that should ask for $1,791,000, and then turn around and give the money to charity.
