It's Not Surprising...

Last night on Twitter (X), there were people posting that it was shameful that the person who attempted to shoot Donald Trump missed.

Think back to when Paul Pelosi was attacked with a hammer, and it was mocked.

It is flat-out disgusting that someone would cheer on violence or hope that the attacker was successful.

This is where we are as a country.

Now, more than ever, the media should report facts, not opinions.

This post by WXIX (Cincy) Anchor Tricia Macke is a prime example of what no one in the media should do.

Macke puts the first part of Wenstrup’s quote in quotation marks, but not the last part, using “stating.”

So, we’re not sure where Wenstrup’s quote ends, and Macke’s opinion takes over.

Also, I’m fairly certain that this was Wenstrup’s quote; she did not say “@JoeBiden.” It seems as If tagging the President was just asking people to flame him.

By posting this, Macke just added to the “rhetoric,” it seems.

Over the coming days, you will hear a lot of “rhetoric” from both sides, just as we have for years. As a Journalist, you do not need to amplify the message as Macke did here.

Trying to fix this divided country is a monumental task; the media is one part of that process.

The world is watching…..

Correction: This story was updated. A previous version showed that Macke made the comments not in quotes. Since there are no quotes in the second part, we can’t tell if this was all Wenstrup, or Macke adding opinion. We updated the story for better clarity.
