Incredible Opportunities at Nexstar

At Nexstar’s KGPE/KSEE, Anchor Brian Dorman posted about the “incredible opportunities” to work at the Nexstar stations.

Thanks to California law, which requires companies to list the salaries, we can see just how “incredible” these jobs really are.

  • Evening news anchors: $80,000 - $115,000/year (these are SAG-AFTRA positions)

  • Sports reporter: $65,000 - $85,000/year (listed as a sports director job)

  • Account executives: $40,000/year plus commissions

  • Newscast director: $17/hour

  • Digital content producer: $19/hour

  • News photographer: $16/hour

  • News reporter: $45,000 - $55,000/year

  • News producer: $19/hour

  • Motion design artist/editor: $22/hour

MIT estimates the living wage for a single adult in Fresno, with no children, is $22.38/hour, or $46,550/year.  Most of these “incredible opportunities” pay less than a living wage.  One of the jobs pays California's minimum wage of $16/hour.

I’m not sure that many of these jobs are “incredible,” but I do know why the station has almost 20 job openings posted.
