The First Shoe Drops at Scripps

Let’s face it: Scripps' “news initiative” is a disaster, and now it’s time for Scripps CEO Adam Symson to start slaughtering scapegoats.

Symson sent an internal memo to the staff that Scripps Senior VP of Local News is out. Sean McLaughlin’s job has been eliminated, and Symson has now tapped Kate O’Brian as president of News for The E.W. Scripps Company.

“She now has responsibility for the news operations across our local media stations, Scripps News and Court TV,” Symson says in the email.

Is this an admission that the news initiative and Scrippscast is a complete failure?

It might not be just yet, but I would bet that changes are coming.

It’s just sad how many people have been screwed over by this “initiative.”
