Another Scripps Anchor Heads for the Exit
/Scripps-owned KJRH (Tulsa) announced that Chief Meteorologist Mike Collier is leaving.
And he’s leaving before the May book.
Insiders at the station think this is another big salary dump by Scripps.
“This has all the hallmarks of another salary dump by Scripps, with the victim allowed to make some vague statement about wanting to devote more time to family, and insincere praise from your “station manager” who now runs the place from Omaha and truly knows nothing about him except that he’s being paid too much and the bosses in Cincinnati want the budget cut again,” one station insider said to FTVLive.
Collier crossed the street seven years ago from Sinclair’s KTUL.
“Your Chief Meteorologist doesn’t leave on April 30, just as May sweeps are getting underway, in the middle of tornado season, in a market that depends on severe weather for its remaining eyeballs, leaving your weather department staffed with a couple of young people who have never been backed by on-air promotion or any station marketing,” said a KJRH employee to FTVLive.
Maybe Collier is leaving on his own accord, or maybe he was pushed; the problem is, we don’t know.
A number of Scripps anchors who were let go have told FTVLive that as the company was letting them go, they told the talent that they could frame their exit however they wanted to.
In other words, the talent could say they were leaving for family reasons, retiring, or they wanted to move onto a new chapter.
The problem now is we have no idea if talent leaving Scripps are doing so on their own or if they are being pushed.
So much for transparency….
