Bezos Breaks His Silence

After Jeff Bezos killed The Washington Post’s political endorsement of Kamala Harris, it has been a fire storm.

Bezos, finally broke his silence with his own opinion piece in the Post.

He said one thing that I agree with 100%.

Bezos wrote, “Presidential endorsements do nothing to tip the scales of an election. No undecided voters in Pennsylvania are going to say, “I’m going with Newspaper A’s endorsement.” None. What presidential endorsements actually do is create a perception of bias. A perception of non-independence. Ending them is a principled decision, and it’s the right one.”

On that point, I agree with what he says. I don’t think any media outlet should ever endorse a candidate.

But, where I think Bezos is full of crap is the fact that he killed the endorsement by the Post, after the editorial people had made their choice and had written their endorsement.

If Bezos wanted to end endorsements by the Washington Post, he should have announced that a year ago, or at least months ago. To make the call, after he saw who the paper was set to endorse, it sounds to me like he did it, because they didn’t pick his guy.

So, while I agree with what Bezos said and I think it is the right move going forward, the timing of that decision to certainly a little sus.

Just saying…
