Here is another example of low pay in TV news.

Tegna’s KXTV in Sacramento has a Producer opening. The job pays a range of just over $24 an hour to just under $28 dollars an hour.

Let’s assume the Producer gets the job at the higher end of the range. That would make their annual salary right around $58,000.

In a story in the Sacramento Bee, titled, “Here’s how much money you need to live comfortably in California and save, study says,” the story states, “In Sacramento County, the low income limit is around $60,000, which would qualify individuals for income-driven programs, according to the California Department of Housing and Community Development Division.”

In other words, Tegna is offering a job that, if you take it, you will qualify for low-income assistance.

Sacramento is a Top 20 market; this isn’t a starter market in Redding, where you might expect lower pay.

It shows that Tegna cares only about dollars and nothing about Producing quality journalism. If they did, they would pay their people better.
