Bumped Up in Tallahassee

Scripps-owned WTXL was the first Scripps station to transition to the new Scripps “News Initiative.”

News initiative is a fancy way of saying, “do news as cheaply as possible.”

The station laid off around a dozen staffers and as one insider said, they gutted an already small newsroom.

General Manager Matt Brown was kicked to the curb in November, as Scripps decided to remove the GM’s at many of their stations.

News Director Vicki Bradley moves up to the Station Manager role. She will also continue in her News Director job.

Bradley, who blocks FTVLive on Twitter, posted about her promotion.

As one insider said, “While good for her, considering that station laid off nearly a dozen last summer/fall with the Scripps Cast "transition," I'm not sure this is appropriate.”

Here’s her post, along with the memo that she posted.
