Reaction to The Group Photo By Cops
/On Friday, FTVLive shared a picture that police took after the capture of escaped killer Danelo Cavalcante.
The cops posted a group picture with Cavalcante, sort of like a hunter with their kill.
When we posted the story, we gave our take, which was, “” The cops did their job, did it well, I feel like the group picture with the suspect was over the top. I feel like they stooped to a lower level instead of just holding their heads high for a job well done.”
We asked for you guys to give us your thoughts and here is a sample of some of the 200+ emails that we got.

“I’m glad they posed for the group photo with Cavalcante. About a decade ago I covered a manhunt in northwest Florida where the man shot and killed one of the officers. I covered his funeral, too, and the images of his family still weigh heavy in my mind. I feel a sense of anxiety when these type of manhunts happen.
These officers in Pennsylvania didn’t treat him poorly, they didn’t beat him up, but instead they handled him with dignity.
All of the officers made it home. Cavalcante made it back to his home. I hope they hang the picture in the prison as a reminder for others.”

“I am a retired Albuquerque police officer 1983 to 2003. I never understood the current generation’s infatuation with taking pictures of themselves. We just didn’t do this during my time, maybe it has something to do with cell phones, I dunno.
The picture makes American law enforcement look like Mexico’s. Or you could say it looks like white big game hunters in Africa posing with their dead animal after a kill. I wonder what most people would think if this had happened in Alabama and the offender was a black man. Hmmmmm.
It’s unprofessional and narcissistic.
I don’t think many people under the age of 50 will think this is bad though because, that’s what they all do. Take selfies all the time. Hey it’s all about me!!!!! Even in law enforcement.
When I was working I would tell my officers, “when you have a prisoner put them in your car and get them to jail. Nothing good is going to come from delaying this”.
This is the current trend in American law enforcement, it’s just like what you post about the media. All about me.”

“Scott:
Living less than 15 minutes from where Cavalcante was collared, I can tell you that the group shot doesn’t bother me at all. The cops worked their tails off over a two-week period in what was the ultimate “cat-and-mouse” game. Having finally caught the “mouse,” they wanted to brag a bit. Let ‘em.
The group shot bothers me far, far less than a selfie of a reporter posing with a politician.”

“The police photo with the PA escapee was, simply put, not appropriate and not professional. This is not Mexico where they hold cartel members up for everyone to take photos. The police certainly deserve to celebrate finding him but this is not the way to do it. The focus should have been on getting him back to prison.”
