WANF (Atlanta) Anchor Rob Hughes is headed to the Windy City.
All –
I’m happy to let you know that Rob Hughes is joining ABC 7 as weekend anchor/reporter.
It’s a return to the Midwest for Rob, who hails from the Indianapolis area and worked in West Lafayette early in his career. Most recently, Rob has anchored weekday mornings at Atlanta News First, the CBS station there. He’s covered major stories, including Georgia’s role in the 2020 election and the impact of Hurricane Zeta on the metro Atlanta area, for which his newscast was honored with an Emmy Award. Before Atlanta, Rob anchored and reported at WCNC in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was there he made the transition from the sports desk to a news anchor role. Rob’s also worked as a sports anchor/reporter in West Lafayette and Topeka, Kansas. Rob has a master’s degree from Indiana University and a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University.
Rob’s family has roots in Chicago. His wife grew up in Mount Prospect and they have lots of family in the area. They have two children, a boy and girl, ages three and four. Rob’s looking forward to moving his young family “home” to Chicago. Rob says when he’s not working or playing with his kids, you’ll find him grilling and golfing.
Rob will anchor our weekend evening newscasts with Karen Jordan, Greg Dutra and Dionne Miller. His first day in the newsroom will be Monday, August. 21.
Please join me in welcoming Rob to the ABC 7 Eyewitness News team!
