This is Not Okay...
/WTMJ in Milwaukee sent MMJ Taylor Lumpkin to cover a Country muisc event.
Lumpkin is Black and she posted that a guy attending the event yelled the N-word at her not once, but twice.
Lumpkin said that the people standing around did nothing but laugh.
WTMJ General Manager Joe Poss released a statement to the Milwaukee Journal, "We are appalled that one of our reporters was subjected to a racial slur while producing a news story. We stand against all forms of racism and have a core commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion," Poss said. "What happened to Taylor Lumpkin at a music festival should not happen to anyone, anywhere. It is painful and heartbreaking when something awful like this occurs. Our focus right now is on supporting Taylor.”
Maybe sending a Black female alone to a country music festival was something the station should have thought about.
I mean, the Kenosha News posted a picture from the festival before it started with the headline “Setting up to have a Really Great Time.”
You didn’t need to look too hard to see the Confederate Flag in the picture.
That might have set off a few warning signs at the station.
Just saying…
