Take Your Head Out of the Sand
/A study shows that in just two years, the proportion of internet users claiming to watch little to no linear TV in a typical day grew 22% to 45%.
The report published by Ampere Analysis shows that nearly half of those using the net are not watching linear TV.
I am one of those people.
I cut the cord over a decade ago and although I watch a lot of YouTube, I watch almost no linear TV.
I don’t watch some TV news on YouTube with stories that are uploaded, but tuning into a newscast? I haven’t done that in years.
I talked to a Reporter here in Florida that says they cut the cord after their cable bill continued to rise and they no longer watch TV news.
When the internet first appeared, some warned newspapers that they should be worried and the newspaper industry stuck its head in the sand and now look at that industry.
How many people do you know that still receive a newspaper?
Exactly.
As streaming continues to grow, TV stations are repeating the history of the newspapers.
TV stations could be adapting, but they choose not to.
You see companies like Nexstar who no longer stream live local news and don’t offer up the newscast to viewers until 2 hours after it aired.
This shows you the short-sightedness of media companies that have no clue how to adapt and grow with technology.
We have seen this story play out before and here’s a hint to media executives, it doesn’t end well.
