Before You Ask For That Raise

Many TV executives claim that the money isn’t rolling into the station as it had been.

Journalists tell FTVLive that when it is time for a raise, they are being told that there is no money. One Journalist told FTVLive that she was offered no raise and was asked to sign another two-year contract. Those getting raises are finding it between 1 and 2%, which isn’t even keeping up with inflation.

This is happening when stations are bringing more money through retransmission agreements than they ever have.

And then there is this.

The Media Post reports that half-way through the off-year leading into the next presidential political media-buying cycle, the 2024 race already has spent twice as much as the 2020 cycle-to-date, according to an analysis released Friday by political and general market ad spending database analyst AdImpact.

The $480.2 million spent through July 7, 2023, is 99.6% more than what was spent through the same point in 2019.

So, before your boss tells you that the station is poor, bring up these figures.

You still won’t get a raise, but at least you will let them know that you know.

Also, check the CEO’s salary package and then let them tell you they are poor.
