Two Others at CNN are Sacked as Well
/FTVLive rarely deals with PR people at stations or the network level.
More often than not, they are not going to answer your questions or give you some line of bullshit.
But there are times when you do need to talk to the PR folks.
Here’s a quick example, I saw the ratings for Monday night and noticed that MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow had beaten Fox News’s Sean Hannity in the overnight ratings.
I wanted to write a story on it, but since I did not watch Fox News, I wondered in Hannity might have been off on Monday night and someone was filling in for him. That would not make Maddow’s win as big of a story if Hannity weren’t hosting.
So, I called Fox News PR department to confirm that Hannity was in the chair. They told me he was, and I wrote the story.
I have found that Fox’s PR department is easy to work with. Sure, they don’t always like the stories I write about Fox News, but they are professional and very easy to access.
You often read about people blasting the head of Fox News comms, Irena Briganti as difficult.
I have never seen that. Sure, there are times when FTVLive and Briganti have gone head to head and not always agreed (actually, many times). But, she has always acted like a professional, and even though we might disagree, there is always respect from both sides.
MSNBC’s PR people are also very good at letting us know what’s happening. They send emails our way with show transcripts and updates. I don’t use much of the information, but I have it if I need it. Again, MSNBC’s people are professional and do a good job.
So, that brings us to CNN.
Jeff Zucker’s girlfriend, Allison Gollust, used to work at NBC with Zucker. One time we called Gollust at NBC about a story we were breaking. She told us she would get back to us with an answer.
That was 11 years ago, and we have never heard from her again.
Gollust was sent packing from CNN, not to be heard from again.
Now we hear that two leaders of CNN’s communications department, Kris Coratti Kelly and Matt Dornic have also been fired this week.
Will we be sad to see them go?
Well, taking into account that we have never talked to either one or got an email from either, that would be a no.
You see, CNN isn’t just fucked up on-air, where viewers have tuned them out in large numbers; they were also completely fucked in their PR department.
I don’t think their firings will have much impact since I’m not sure either one ever did anything. I know Dornic would shit-post to Twitter, but other than that, I have no clue what he did.
Hopefully, when CNN fills the positions, they will fill it with people that are good at doing their jobs. Maybe CNN could poach someone from Fox News or MSNBC since those networks seem to get it.
