Scripps Names a New GM in Salt Lake *

The E.W. Scripps Company has announced the appointment of Merri Hanson as the new vice president and general manager for KSTU, Scripps' Fox affiliate in Salt Lake City. Hanson, who brings over 25 years of sales and broadcast experience to the role, will assume her position on July 17.

Hanson's most recent role was vice president and general manager of KIVI, Scripps' local ABC station in Boise, Idaho, where she served since January 2021. Prior to that, she held the position of station manager at KIVI and joined the station as a local sales manager in 2016.

Dean Littleton, Scripps' senior vice president of local media, expressed confidence in Hanson's abilities, stating, "Merri is an accomplished Scripps leader who knows how to build trust with her internal teams and the communities our local television stations serve. We know her decades of experience in both news-producing and business leadership roles will make her a great fit for our Salt Lake City team."

Hanson's diverse career includes roles such as vice president of business development with Stevenson Advertising in Seattle, regional marketing executive with Tegna, anchor and producer with KTRV in Nampa, Idaho, and general manager for KSVT in Hailey, Idaho.

Expressing her appreciation for her previous team in Boise, Hanson said, "I am proud of the work our Idaho News 6 team has accomplished together for the people of Idaho over the last seven years, and I look forward to cheering them on as they continue that work." She also expressed eagerness to join the FOX13 team in Salt Lake City and collaborate on innovative ways to deliver quality local journalism to the community.
