Follow the Checklist at this CBS O&O

The reporting at KCBS/KCAL (LA) was sent an internal memo from Assistant News Director Jen Pierce, and it includes a checklist that each person should do before their story hits the air.

Here’s the memo:

As we go forward, we want to make sure we are being as efficient and complete in telling the stories you cover.

You put a lot of work into getting and telling fantastic stories, and producers need the best elements to make sure your story airs properly.

Below is a checklist of what needs to be sent to the newsroom for each story you cover- this goes for every daypart:

  • PKG with KCAL NEWS CLOSE

  • PKG should include a standup or bridge (we want to see who is reporting)

  • VOSOT version of your story- SCRIPT AND CUT VIDEO

  • Stand up Tease

  • Tease video

  • 2 Whips: 20 second headline version of the story - One shot center screen, One with reporter framed screen left (to put full screen up on right)

  • Streamer/Stream Extra- 1 min walk and talk promoting your story

Thanks, and keep up the good work!

Jen

You may remember that FTVLive told you that KCBS/KCAL has cut way back on using freelancers and now they are handing the stretched-thin staff more work.

You gots to love the communications business.
