Where The News Doesn't Always Come First

Yesterday, FTVLive told you how the Quad Cities TV news departments dropped the ball when it came to a 5-story building in Davenport.

It happened Memorial Day weekend and it appears the newsrooms were working with a skeletal staff on the holiday.

Even as the week went on, it appears the stations were still struggling to cover the story.

A local news viewer sent along this email:

“In regards to your story about Iowa stations dropping the ball about the building collapse- yes, most certainly did. In watching KWQC’s 5 pm newscast yesterday, they had all of four minutes of coverage then it was first weather, then a commercial break. All of two reporters on it - just one was live at the scene. Contrast that with KCCI who made the two-and-a-half hour drive to Davenport and brought their drone with them and turned an entire PKG on it and had a live reporter - at the scene and another in studio. I get it the Quad Cities is not the biggest and certainly not the sexiest market but this is a huge story just like when the building collapsed in Florida and should have been treated as such.”
