Americans Blame the Media for the Divide

When it comes to the divided states of America a new poll shows that nearly three-quarters of U.S. adults say the news media is increasing political polarization in this country, and just under half say they have little to no trust in the media's ability to report the news fairly and accurately, according to a new survey from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights.

FTVLive has said for years that we truly believe that cable news has done more to divide this country than anyone else.

I see this poll, and I have to wonder if there was a way to separate cable news from the rest of the media, would the results be different?

While I think there are many problems with local TV news that need to be addressed, I think for the most part, bias is not much of a problem for local TV news.

Yes, there are some incidents of bias in local coverage, and especially with posts by Journalists on social media. But it is still nowhere near the level of cable news.

Cable news has done for journalism, what ambulance chasers did for lawyers. It has left the profession tarnished and swayed public opinion against it.

I’m not sure what local TV news can do to fight this perception, other than to focus on better journalism.
