$5,000 Signing Bonus
/As stations continue to look for Producers, some are finally doing what should have been done long ago.
Offer more money.
Scripps-owned WXYZ is offering $5,000 upfront to the Producer that signs on with the station.
They don’t say what the job pays yearly, but they try to lure candidates in with money upfront.
I expect you will see more stations doing this.
Also, if you’re a Producer, the ball is in your court. Many stations did away with paying moving expenses for new hires.
If you’re a Producer and a station wants to hire you, make them pay for the move!
Also, negotiate for an extra week of vacation each year you’re employed. The job is stressful, and you deserve some extra time off.
Producers, you need to understand that you are a white-hot commodity right now, and it is time that stations show you the money.
News Directors will hate me for giving you this advice, but it’s not like they are going to tell you this stuff.
As for that job in Motown? Tell the station to make it $7,000, and we have a deal.
