Another One Signing off in Houston * (Updated)
/The revolving door at KPRC in Houston might need some more grease.
But, at least this latest talent exit is for a very good reason.
Syan Rhodes, a popular and award-winning anchor at KPRC 2, has announced that she is leaving the station after seven years to focus on her new role as a foster mom.
Rhodes shared the news on her Instagram account on Monday, April 10, 2023. She posted a photo of herself holding a sign that read “I’m a foster mom!” and wrote a heartfelt caption explaining her decision.
She said that she had become a licensed foster mom and received the call to be placed with a child quickly. She took time off to get acquainted with her foster child and decided that she wanted to devote more time and energy to this new chapter in her life.
“It’s been a blessing to come back to my hometown and serve my community as an advocate for truth and a voice for the voiceless,” she wrote. “But I’ve also always wanted to be a mom. And now I have the opportunity to do both.”
She thanked her colleagues and viewers for their support and said that this would be her last week at KPRC 2. She also hinted that she might return to journalism in the future, but for now, she was looking forward to being a mom.
Rhodes is a Houston native who grew up in Sunnyside and Third Ward. She attended Dodson Elementary, T. H. Rogers School and Episcopal High School. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.
She started her career in Topeka, Kansas, and then worked in Memphis and Orlando before moving back to Houston in 2014. She joined KPRC 2 as a weekend evening anchor and reporter and covered many important stories, such as Hurricane Harvey, the Santa Fe High School shooting and the George Floyd protests.
She also won several awards for her work, including an Emmy for her investigative report on human trafficking in Houston.
We wish Rhodes all the best in her new journey as a foster mom and hope that she will keep us updated on her adventures.
