Sinclair Merging Operations?

Earlier this month, Sinclair posted this News Manager job at KAEF in Eureka, California.

The job is no longer posted, but it contained bullet points and last bullet point made it sound like KAEF is going to operate as a bureau of Sinclair's shop KRCR in Chico-Redding.

Then we saw this ad for a News Manager at WTGS in Savannah, GA. Look at the last bullet point again.

I would bet that the other station they are referring to in this listing is WGXA in Macon, GA.

FTVLive FIRST told you that Sinclair had implemented layoffs at WGXA and my guess is that the company will look to combine the station with WTGS.

FTVLive told you that Sinclair made deep cuts at major cuts at WSMH and WEYI in Flint. Sources say that they will be combining those stations with WWMT in Kalamazoo.

When you combine operations across markets, you are watering down the newscast in each market. Viewers are getting screwed all in an effort for you to save money.

But, Sinclair gets about 50% of their revenue from retransmission agreements. In other words, they can put crap on the air, and they will still be paid by the cable and satellite companies.

There is no incentive to put on a good news product and hire good Journalists because the retrans money comes in no matter what.

Retransmission fees are the reason people are cutting the cord and why Journalism is going down hill.
