/Toledo's ABC-TV affiliate, WTVG-TV, Channel 13, is currently on the hunt for a new news director following the departure of Michael Baldwin. Baldwin was promoted to the position in early 2022, but it seems that his tenure was relatively short-lived.
Brad Moses, the general manager at WTVG, confirmed Baldwin's departure in an email response to The Blade, stating that he was now looking for a replacement. Moses did not provide any further information about Baldwin's departure.
Baldwin had previously served as the news director at WDTV-TV, Channel 5 in Bridgeport, W.Va., before joining Channel 13 as an assistant news director. He had an impressive 27-year career in television, with stops in Boston, Nevada, Tennessee, Maine, and North Carolina.
Gray Television, WTVG's parent company, has posted a job description for Baldwin's replacement. The description states that the company is looking for a News Director who will "lead, mentor, and develop the next generation of journalists." The ideal candidate should excel under high expectations, be passionate about their work, and be dedicated to delivering quality news coverage across multiple platforms, including digital and social media.
The departure of a news director can be a significant change for any news organization. News directors are responsible for overseeing the newsroom, setting editorial direction, and ensuring that the news coverage is fair, accurate, and of the highest quality. It's not clear what led to Baldwin's departure, but it's safe to say that WTVG will be looking for a replacement who can continue to lead the newsroom in the right direction.
