Staffers Very Concerned About Station's Buyer

The staff at KQDS (Duluth) is very concerned about the new owner who is purchasing the station.

The Fox affiliate has been bought by Coastal Television, which is run by Bill Fielder.

Fielder vows to run to do more with less at his TV stations. At other Coastal Television stations, they outsource the weather forecasting to an outside company.

A source tells FTVLive that Coastal also uses a few anchors who apparently record news among all stations in front of green screens.

If you are looking for balanced news, that likely isn’t happening either.

Fielder ran for state senate in Georgia in 2018 and lost by a lot. His campaign website is still online. He calls himself a “NO NONSENSE CONSERVATIVE.”

When Fielder’s group bought KTWO (Casper), many staffers were laid off. The news staff went from 15 people to 5 under Coastal TV.

Check out Fielder’s Twitter and you find posts like this.

Doesn’t appear that the station will be offering up objective coverage.

The suits from Coastal TV are visiting KQDS on Thursday.

I get the feeling that many of the staffers that attend the meeting, won’t be around much longer after that.

It’s sad to see, but this is the nature of today’s television.
