Cops Clamp the Cuffs on San antonio Anchor

There is a lot of irony in this story…

Longtime San Antonio Sports Anchor Greg Simmons was arrested for drunk driving early Friday morning.

Deputies clamped the cuffs on Simmons about 3 a.m. on Friday after a deputy said the Anchor was driving about 20 miles an hour and drifting outside the lane of travel. The deputy says he followed Simmons with his lights and sirens on for about five minutes before Simmons finally pulled over.

The police report says that Simmons was stumbling on his feet, unable to recite the alphabet clearly, and he handed the deputy a credit card instead of his driver’s license.

Simmons refused a breathalyzer, and the deputy asked a judge to grant a warrant for a blood draw.

KSAT GM Ashley Parker released a statement in which she doesn’t even name Simmons.

“KSAT 12 can confirm that one of our employees was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated on January 27, 2023. In the meantime, we ask that you respect the privacy of all involved and refrain from speculation or conjecture. We will continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as they become available.”

The Graham station did report the story on the station’s website, But…

It appears that the story of Simmons’ arrest got no mention on the 6 p.m. Friday newscast or any others, according to sources that watched the station.

The web story was buried WAY down on the KSAT home page.

The place normally reserved at the bottom for comments was disabled.

The statement from the GM Is a bit ironic, being that KSAT has apparently covered every development (and rightly so) in a city councilman’s arrest for DWI and hit & run last November. (Keyword search: Clayton Perry.).

We also could not find any mention of KSAT asking for the privacy of all involved and refrain from speculation or conjecture in the councilman’s arrest.

This is why viewers’ trust in the media is at an all-time low.

If one of your own is arrested, you need to treat that just as you would a public official.

I think, excuse the pun, should Expect More.
