Shanelle Kaul, an experienced journalist with a background in breaking news coverage, has joined CBS News as a correspondent. In this role, she will be reporting for the CBS Television Network, CBS News Radio, and Newspath, reflecting a unified vision for CBS News and Stations division. This is a first-of-its-kind position that brings together the overnight newsgathering and breaking news responsibilities of the Network, CBS News Radio, and Newspath.

Kaul comes to CBS News from CP24, Canada's most-watched breaking news channel, where she spent the last four years covering some of the world's biggest news stories. During her tenure at CP24, she moderated primetime news panels on international news such as the war in Ukraine, the Freedom Convoy protests in Ottawa, and U.S. politics. Additionally, she anchored Bell Media's 24-hour national news program, "CTV News Channel," CTV's national morning show, "Your Morning," and guest hosted CTV's daytime talk show "The Social."

Prior to joining CP24, Kaul served as a weekend anchor and daily reporter at "CTV News Edmonton." She began her broadcasting career in 2011 at Global Toronto's assignment desk, where she coordinated coverage of breaking news. She then joined the Global Regina newsroom in 2012 as an evening reporter, and was quickly promoted to weekend anchor and then weekday morning anchor.

Kaul is a graduate of the Toronto Metropolitan University's School of Journalism. Her work has earned her The Ticker Club's Floyd Chalmers Prize for Excellence in Business Journalism. She has also spent the last two years teaching news production to journalism students at her alma mater. Kaul, who is originally from Sri Lanka and grew up in Toronto, will be based in New York. She is set to start on January 13, and will be working alongside Jarred Hill, who was recently named a morning correspondent for Newspath.
