Fired CNN Producer Accused of Violating Court Order

Remember CNN Senior Producer John Griffin?

He was the creep that was arrested by the FBI after a federal grand jury in Vermont charged him with three counts of attempting to entice minors to engage in unlawful sexual activity.

CNN fired him after he was arrested.

Well now, this former CNN staffer is facing a contempt of court claim in Connecticut, according to a new filing in a civil case against him.

The Stamford Advocate reports that Griffin remains in federal custody in Vermont where he has pleaded not guilty to three counts of using a facility of interstate commerce to attempt to entice minors to engage in unlawful sexual activity.

He is also being sued in Connecticut state Superior Court by the girl and her guardian who are seeking punitive damages based on “the heinousness of the defendant’s misconduct,” court documents said.

As part of the lawsuit, a judge agreed to require Griffin to give his attorney, Robert Berke, a specified amount of funds by July 1 to ensure the girl is paid if she wins the lawsuit.

But according to a motion filed by attorney Joel Foxon, who is representing the girl, Griffin has only made a partial payment of the amount required as of Friday. Foxon wants Griffin held in contempt of court based on the lack of full payment, court documents said. The amount Griffin was to give his attorney has been sealed by the court.

The girl, who is now living with the guardian in Connecticut, is referred to as “Jane Doe” in the lawsuit to protect her identity.

Foxon wants Griffin fined until he sets aside the rest of the money and is seeking for him to pay for the girl’s legal fees for filing the motion, the documents said.

Griffin did provide the federal government $1 million — his share from the sale of the Vermont home where the alleged incidents occurred — that will be held for restitution if he is found guilty of the federal charges, court documents said.

Griffin was once a producer for the Chris Cuomo show and was most recently a producer for CNN senior political analyst John Avlon before he was fired after his federal arrest.
