Support From the Big Boss

It appears that new CNN boss Chris Licht got a word of support from his big boss, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav.

Licht is tasked with the monumental job of trying to clean up the massive mess left by former CNN boss Jeff Zucker.

It is clearly not something that Licht is going to be able to accomplish overnight and it appears that Zaslav understands that.

When Zaslav was asked about CNN’s bad ratings, he responded with “I think Chris is doing a great job pivoting CNN,” Zaslav said. “Journalism first. America needs a news network where everybody can come and be heard; Republicans, Democrats. I think you’re seeing more of that at CNN. I think it’s the greatest news brand in the world with the greatest journalists. And we’re going to lean into that. We’re not going to look at the ratings and, in the long run, it’s going to be worth more.”

Now, don’t buy into the BS of not looking at ratings. Of course, they are looking at ratings. But, CNN was driven into the ground by Zucker and there was no way the ratings or CNN’s image were going to be fixed in just a couple of months.

Licht has a lot of work to try and rebuild what Jeff Zucker tore down and this is clearly a marathon and not a sprint.

It appears that Zaslav understands that.
