Fox News Job Opening - No Degree Required

Fox has posted a Reporter for a Reporter on the digital side and they are not requiring that you have a degree.

The job opening posted says, “FoxNews.com & FoxBusiness.com are looking for an experienced Reporter to join our team. You are a seasoned journalist with years of experience in a major newsroom with vast experience in coverage. You have a wide range of sources that will enable you to break news and dig in on original and exclusive reporting.”

While the job opening does say that you will need at least 4 years of experience, you will not need a college degree.

The job posting reads:

NICE TO HAVE, BUT NOT A DEAL BREAKER

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

I think Fox is changing with the times and I have to say I agree with them on this.

I have always felt that if you were going to college with thoughts on becoming a Reporter in TV news, my advice would be to make Journalism your minor and major in something like political science, criminal justice, or economics.

Most people will tell you that they have learned more about TV news in a 4 month internship, then they have in 4 years of college. What many J-schools teach you is not really practical in real TV news.

Plus, seeing so many kids come out of J-school and then flood their social media with selfies and dance videos, I’m not sure these kids are being taught anything.

I think Fox is moving the right direction.

Here’s the job posting if you are interested.
