LA News Director Emails Exit Letter to Staff

Yesterday, FTVLive FIRST told you that KTTV News Director Erica Hill was leaving The Firm’s station in LA.

Hill sent an email to the staff and FTVLive has obtained a copy of that email:

 I am sharing the news today that I have decided to leave FOX11 after nearly three incredible years working alongside all of you.

 When I first moved to LA in 2019 to follow my wife’s growing career, I had planned on taking some time off and seeing what it would be like to take a step back. Her career was taking off and it was the first time in my life that I had the option to take a break after working in newsrooms nonstop for over 20 years. Little did I know, that is not what the universe had in store for me. A few weeks after deciding to leave Seattle, I discovered that the station I had always wanted to work for had an opening (p.s. that was FOX11!). It took just a few minutes of meeting Bill Lamb to know that this was meant to be and I was destined to be in a newsroom again. I could never have predicted what the next few years would have in store.  This has been an incredible journey. I have always believed the universe puts you in a place where you are needed the most and I think I was meant to be your News Director to help lead during a global pandemic. I will look back at my time here with fond memories of your incredible courage, commitment to excellence and outstanding journalism. I have learned so much from all of you.

 Now that the world is settling into our new normal and the height of the crisis is behind us, I find myself back at the crossroads I was at in 2019. My wife’s career is taking off again and it has been feeling like the time is now to finally take that step back. So on Monday I informed Bill that it’s time for me to move on and explore this next chapter of my life. I do not know what the universe has in store for me but I’m ready to find out. My last day at the station will be Friday July 1.

 I have been in awe of watching this team’s commitment and courage through difficult times. Your teamwork, your commitment, your comradery will be what I remember most about this place. Thank you all for the privilege of working alongside you. And thank you especially to FOX and to Bill for giving me this opportunity and being such a support to me on my decision. I will forever be a fan of this station and all of you.
