Back to Des Moines

Back in April of last year WOI morning anchor Elias Johnson left the Tegna station after he said he and the station could not agree on a new contract.

“Management offered me a new agreement, but unfortunately we were not able to come to terms. I respect their decision and courtesy to give me ample time to plan,” Johnson said at the time.

Now, he is returning to Des Moines, but it will be across the street at Nexstar’s WHO-TV. Jounson also worked at WHO before working at WOI.

He will be anchoring the evening shows at WHO.

“We want to continue to grow our local content by bringing important stories and live reporting to Central Iowa,” said WHO 13 Vice President and General Manager Bobby Totsch. “This veteran group of journalists has called Des Moines home for decades, and they are very familiar to our viewers. By creating a 4-person evening “news team” rotation, we have more opportunities to expand our local content while also covering breaking news. That is exactly what viewers expect from the Des Moines local news leader.”
