Seem a bit odd when President Joe Biden visited the scene of the mass shooting in Buffalo to pay his respects, and Tegna’s WGRZ had a Reporter from Knoxville covering the story.

WGRZ anchors tossed to Thuy Lan Nguyen live outside the Tops supermarket where the shooting happened.

Nguyen works as the Assistant News Director at Tegna’s WBIR in Knoxville.

When viewers tune into the local news, especially on such a big story, it would seem that they would be more comfortable getting the news from a Reporter that they watch on a regular basis.

Did Tegna think that the WGRZ Reporters were not up to the task of covering a major story like this? Why is an Assistant News Director from a station hundreds of miles away covering the story in Buffalo for a station based in Buffalo?

Nguyen has been the Deuce at WBIR for just 4 months. Before that, she was a Reporter for Tegna’s WTSP in Tampa.

Nguyen does have some knowledge of the Buffalo area; she worked 3 years at the low-rated Scripps-owned WKBW.

Just seemed odd that WGRZ would not have their own Reporters covering the story.
