We're Covering the Election

Back when I was a News Director, after making a new hire in the news department, someone in creative services would put out a press release about the person we just hired.

Often times there would be a quote from me in the release, despite the fact I never said anything. I would be asked to look over the release before it was sent out and I would see my quote that would say something like, “We’re happy to have Jane Doe join the news team,” said Scott Jones News Director, “Jane has a personality that jumps off the screen and she will be delivering impactful stories that matter to our viewers, along with the rest of our dedicated journalists on staff.”

I don’t talk like that.

So, when I read this release from WPRI (Providence) about their upcoming election coverage and the quotes in the release, I thought about the days when my name was in the release with a quote I never made.

I also wonder, when WPRI sent this release out, did they expect the local newspaper to do a story on it? Did they think the other stations in town would go with the release? Who was it geared to?

Well, it made FTVLive, so I guess that’s something….
