Former News Nation Anchor Lands at CBS O&O

Joe Donlon was hired by WGN in Chicago after spending more than two decades as an Anchor in Portland.

Donlon was hired by then WGN News Director Jennifer Lyons and when Lyons was promoted by Nexstar to lead their start up cable channel, “News Nation” she quickly hired Donlon as an Anchor at News Nation.

At first Donlon was a straight news anchor, but after Lyons quit the Nexstar station, Donlon was placed in a role of more of an opinion host.

He did a widely panned interview with President Trump that was nothing more than lobbing huge softball questions in Trump’s direction.

Donlon finally left News Nation, but many felt his reputation has a news anchor were damaged by his stint at the cable channel.

But, he has now found a job and he stays in Chicago.

Donlon has been hired by CBS O&O WBBM, the longtime last place Chicago station. You might not be surprised to know that WBBM’s GM is none other than Jennifer Lyons.

Donlon’s hiring reunites the two, but it also means that WBBM’s main Anchor Brad Edwards is getting demoted.

With Donlon coming in as the main guy, the station announced that Edwards has been named Primary Anchor and Storyteller for CBS News Chicago, the station’s streaming channel.

They tried to pass off the fact that Edwards moving to the little watched streaming channel is almost like a promotion.

It’s not. I don’t care how you spin it.

Just saying…
