How About Just Helping Out the People that Live Here?

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is so busy trying to keep the far right-wing happy, he seems to have lost any focus on the people that live here in Florida.

While he could be addressing a number of issues here in Florida, like healthcare, gas prices, supply chain issues and ongoing traffic problems, he is talking about how he wants to attack Twitter.

DeSantis threatened Twitter (not a Florida company) after it activated “poison pill” plan to prevent Elon Musk’s acquisition: “We’re gonna be looking at ways the state of Florida potentially can be holding these Twitter board of directors accountable for breaching their fiduciary duty.”

He is also talking about taking away Disney’s special status in here in Florida.

When Walt and Roy Disney set to launch Walt Disney World, the Florida politicians gave the massive Disney property a special status that allowed them to be their own local government and not have to deal with all the counties that the Disney property sits in.

It was that status that helped Disney grow from a single theme park to 4 parks, along with water parks a campground and Disney Springs.

Disney could do the work quickly and didn’t have to worry about local county permits and the red tape that comes along with that.

Disney is now the Florida economy.

Millions of people come to Florida each year and spend billions of dollars.

Every hotel, restaurant, rent a car in central Florida makes money thanks to Disney.

Disney World is the is the largest single-site employer in the United States.

Ron DeSantis doesn’t like the fact that Disney hasn’t been nice to him and he wants to now pull the special status that helped make Disney World such a success.

All, so the right-wing will take notice and he can get one step closer to the White House.

What if Disney just said, okay, you do that and will be just shut down and close up shop?

The Florida economy would crumble.

Hundreds of thousands of people would be out of work and businesses all over central Florida would close.

I wonder how popular Ron DeSantis would be then?

Florida residents would have to start paying state income tax, because, thanks to Disney, we have not had to do so.

DeSantis should be focusing on Florida and the problems here and stop grandstanding against companies like Disney and Twitter.

Just saying….
