Sign Of the Times

In my TV news career, I did a number of jobs.

Some of the jobs I did were Photographer, Reporter, Assignment Editor, Producer, Executive Producer, Managing Editor, and News Director. There were a few others, but you get the drift.

The one thing, when I did those jobs, for the most part they were my only job.

Also, it used to be as you moved up in market size, the job you had was a bit more defined.

But, when I saw this job posting for a station in Dallas, it sort of shows me where the business is now.

I have to say, in the market the size of Dallas, I never thought I would see a job that requires yo to anchor, report, shoot, edit and do graphics.

How is one supposed to practice journalism, when they are so busy with so many jobs?

I know we live in the time of doing more with less, but asking someone to do everything IS going to hurt your on-air product.

I beg stations to stop combining all the jobs in the newsroom into a single job.

Give people a chance to excel in one area and you might be surprised that Journalism is not as dead as many people think.
