This War is Brought to You By Applebees
/It appears that CNN is ready to do or sell anything to try and make a buck.
But, Applebees did not appreciate that CNN appeared to make them a title sponsor of the war in Ukraine.
Some CNN genius thought it was a good idea to run the spots inside a box, next to the headline “Russia Invades Ukraine.”
While this move has become common in sports coverage, it doesn’t really work in news. Applebees might be fine with their ad running next to Dustin Johnson trying to make a 12 footer for birdie, but not so much when bombs are dropping on the citizens of a country being invaded.
Applebees pulled their spots after CNN damaged their brand.
"When we were made aware that our ad was placed in this manner, we immediately reached out to CNN to pause our advertising on their network," an Applebee's spokesperson said. "It never should have aired, and we are disappointed in the actions of the network.” The spokesperson added that the brand is "deeply concerned about the situation in Ukraine."
Tune in to CNN coverage tonight when Wolf Blitzer gives you the latest war news while wearing a Bass Pro Shops hat.
It should come as no surprise that the media critics at CNN ignored this story in their “Reliable Sources” newsletter and used the letter to cheer on CNN’s coverage from Ukraine.
Not exactly “reliable”…
Just saying….
WW3 sponsored by Applebees.
