Trailblazing Louisville Anchor Passes Away
/Longtime Louisville Anchor Melissa Forsythe has passed away.
Forsythe anchored the news for both WAVE and WHAS in Louisville, but it was a fight for her to do that.
Forsythe was the first woman to anchor the news at WAVE, but the station fired her in the late 70’s.
She was to land a job at WHAS, but WAVE sued her for trying to take a job at a competitor, despite the fact that they had fired her.
"This case may be the first time in broadcast history that a station fired an employee and then took that employee to court to keep her from working for a competing station," The Courier Journal reported in 1979.
The case was dismissed, with the court siding with Forsythe.
She stayed at WHAS11 until 1991.
She was 71 years old.
